Independent School Educators network

connect - discuss - collaborate

The admission office at my school is considering a facebook page. Can anyone point me to independent schools that are on facebook now? Any pros and cons to consider?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

Lorrie Jackson has done a lot of work on this. On a recent post, she mentions that Northfield Mount Hermon has a large fan base on Facebook.

We have dabbled in Facebook this year. Don't know much of what they're up to (it's our Admissions and Alumi deparments). Oakhill Day School.

Thanks Demetri and Bernadette for those examples. Here is the Oak Hill facebook page for those following the discussion.

Sorry, should have linked it in the first place. Our alumni department also joins and monitors various groups, posts to discussion boards about where people are now, maintaining contact with alum. They probably aren't as effective with it now as they could be, but they're working on it.

My suggestion is to take the fire-ready-aim approach and see what happens! My experience with this approach relating to school involvement in social network spaces has been nothing but positive.

Good luck!

Hi Jamie -- we did an interesting admissions FB project this year. It's kinda complicated to get into here, but call me or email and I'll explain it! -Kris Bailey (The Urban School) 415 626 2919 or kbailey@urbanschool.org
