Has anyone here tried running their own Moodle page without help from a school? I'm thinking of trying to set up my own moodle page for future students, and I'd love some advice.
I've been through 1and1.com with a "fine tooth comb" and cannot find a 1-click Moodle Installation. I've been trying to install this myself all summer and keep running into problems. Can you tell me where to fine the 1-click installation, I would be delighted and my incipient ulcer would disappear immediately!
Hi
I'm a moodle trainer and also host moodle sites. I can set you up with a basic moodle site and hosting for $50 per year. You can contact me a jeff@moodleflair.com

From a google search of "free moodle hosting for teachers" it looks like webteachertools offers a free Moodle course setup to teachers. There is a link in the upper right corner to sign up. I don't know if this is legit or not, but you might want to try this, or some of the other hits that come up from a Google search.
I think that remote-learner.net will also set you up with a course to play with if you just want to see the capabilities.
I looked at the 1and1.com site and that looks like a good deal if you want a whole Moodle installation (like a whole Moodle site that could offer dozens of courses), but this web hosting does costs $5.49/month (I assume the Moodle install is one of the "1-click installation" items). This may be more than you want or need.
Hi Demetri
It looks like http://webteachertools.com/wtt/ is a bona fide set-up. I guess the only drawback is that you share your course with many others. It's not clear from the intro page what role you'd be given. Without admin powers certain things would be off-limits. For example, off the top of my head,
- adding captions to slideshows
- including useful add-ons like nanogong and eportfolio
- changing the theme
btw, I also set up a free site for playing with as a student or admin. It's at http://moodleflair.com
Hi Susan ~ I Twitter and I love my PLN on Twitter! I get teaching ideas daily, and I feel like I miss out on great discussion if I am away from Twitter for more than a few days. My Twitter name is BJacketsfan.
Thanks Sarah,
I agree with you - what I really want to say is that the 1-1 will enhance and improve our already high quality teaching and that it is part of the "life long learner" that is in our mission statement.
And then I'm done.
However, o...
Dear Cassandra,
Thanks for the help. I have visited the Primary Mathematics series website and sent an email to their school contact email address. If I don't hear something soon I will send you an email request for your rep.
