I would love to connect with other third grade classrooms! I have been successful using Skype and Edmodo to engage the children to communicate with peers outside of our local community. If you have ideas or are interested in connecting, please reply.

As a 3rd grade teacher I encourage the children to read for 20 min each night. This is part of their homework. They write the name of the book they read each night on a reading log, and on Friday they turn it in with a written response for one night. I usually give specific instructions for this response...sometimes it is practicing a strategy (find 3 places you asked a question...) and sometimes it's a response to story elements. The children are getting tired of this..as am I. Have you any ideas to ensure that reading is taking place on a daily basis?
