Here is the Twitter hashtag for Digital Wave – #digitalwave

So what's a hashtag? First, it has the pound sign at the beginning. Second, it compiles all the tweets that contain the hashtag. The result is that you can group all the tweets around a topic or conversation simply by including the hashtag in the tweet.

To see all the tweets that are part of a hashtag, when you are on Twitter do a search for the hashtag. Once you find it, you can save the search so it is easy to return to the next time. To the right is a screen shot of my Twitter page; notice the three saved searches.

http://mashable.com/2010/05/11/social-media-school/ is an interesting site about how to use social media in classroom. it talks about "digital citizenship" as a necessary component to our curriculum building in the area of social media. Also, check out http://mashable.com/2010/03/01/twitter-classroom/ for how twitter in the classroom boosts student engagement. All very interesting, but how applicable to elementary students?
