Independent School Educators network

Dear all,

This is my inaugural post as part of the group. Very excited to have access to each of you as I continue my exploration of blended learning.

I was hoping to get some good ideas as to which LMS you use, why you like it and why you think it is better than others. I am currently using Haiku and find it to be very intuitive withg lots of funcitonality and great customer support.

But I would like to be exposed to others to make an informed decision and to be able to speak with some authority to my other collegues.

Thanks for your help!

I have only used Haiku and Moodle -- and I prefer Haiku for the very reasons you mentioned above. Moodle was clumsy at best in comparison to Haiku. I found it more difficult to deliver materials in a clear, structured, intuitive manner.

Good luck.

Hi Peter,

I have two years' experience with Blackboard, which we gave up in favor of Moodle, primarily because of cost savings.  Turns out teachers found Moodle to be more intuitive and easier to use than Blackboard as well.  Afer three years with Moodle, we are now in the process of moving from Moodle to Haiku.  I echo everything you said about Haiku.  My teachers are chomping at the bit to get going with Haiku because it is much more intuitive than Moodle; has better functionality; is continuously improved; great customer service.  Hands down- Haiku is the best LMS that I've used.

Regards,

Melissa Wert

I've run Moodle and Blackboard servers in the past and, like others, prefer Haiku.

Hello Peter.

I've used a few different systems over the years (Haiku, Blackboard, Moodle, Finalsite Academics Manager).  Haiku has probably been my favorite for the reasons you mentioned.  I'd suggest (if you haven't already) spending some time with teachers and administrators discussing how a virtual space (through your LMS) can support your academic program.  Clearly articulating your needs first will help make the most out of whatever platform you choose.

Best,

Craig

Thanks to everyone who responded so far. Your opinions are a great help. I dont think we are ready for school wide adoption but we have a few teachers very interested and I need to justify my decision to ask that I be provided with a Haiku account.
