Blended Learning

Connect with fellow educators as we explore blended learning (combining online and face-to-face instruction with a reduction in traditional "seat time") which according to iNACOL "is likely to emerge as the predominant teaching model of the future."

Welcome to any new members of the group from the latest section of OSG's Intro to Blended class!  Also, here's a great report from the Center for Research on Girls on girls and blended learning.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

If you all have a chance, take a peek at Melissa Cole and Caroline Goodman's article in the Tennessee English Journal about Blending and Flipping English classes.  Really great to see a good Humanities example!  And, tell your friends that that the next session of Blended Learning starts on Monday.  Still some spaces left!

Hi all-

I've created a Diigo group (OSB-BL) where Craig and I are (slowly, but surely) putting links to all of the tools and resources we've come across over the past year that are related to or helpful with blended learning.  This includes Web 2.0 tools, news articles, etc.  Feel free to join and begin adding to the repository!

The conference was great! My attendance really made me think about the strides we are making in the secondary classroom. I am very impressed with the attempts secondary and even middle school teachers have made in an effort to blend and reverse learning. I found it interesting to learn about the efforts to blend on college campuses but what I came away with is that secondary schools are moving in right direction and in many ways, in my opinion, leading the way.

Craig, the conference sounds wonderful. The article in the Chronicle for Higher Education concerning tweets in the classroom raised issues covered also in the NYT last Sunday. Twitter might be helpful in forging boundaries with students (I feel less comfortable with this) but also very useful in teaching concise writing--how to write a single, strong sentence.

Great time at the Sloan-C Blended Learning conference with Melissa Wert, Melissa Cole, and Caroline Goodman. Search the conference tag, #blend11 on Twitter to get some great resources and feedback from the conference.
