Great Books for Middle School Readers

Let's share the titles of books our kids are currently enjoying. What books won't they put down? Any suggestions for readers in grades 6, 7 or 8?

I would love to get some feedback about this book and whether you all feel it is appropriate for late 7th grade/8th grade readers.

Our 7th and 8th graders, and all of their advisors, are reading FLIPPED this summer. According to one of our 8th grade LA teachers, last year's 8th graders LOVED the book.

So far, I am also loving it! It brings me back to middle school in the blink of an eye. The book is written from the perspective of two kids each sharing about the same events. More than that, I shall not share ;-)

Ruth- I am the Messenger is also a difficult read. I'd recommend it for high school.

Some of my students loved The Book Thief, but others thought it was a really difficult read. Does anyone know about his other book, I am the Messenger? Is that good for 8th graders?

I posted a review for Catching Fire on my blog: http://somenovelideas.typepad.com. Also check out The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I will definitely be adding The Hunger Games to my curriculum (7th gr.) next year. Just started The Outsiders with my classes.

Students in 7-8th are really enjoying The Hunger Games trilogy-- so far, only The Hunger Games and Catching Fire have been released.

I'm hearing (through the grapevine) that 8th graders are loving The Book Thief. I'm really curious as to what my incoming students (in grades 6 and 8) will be reading come September 10th.
