Has anyone used the iPad in the classroom to create an  e-book?  We are looking for presentation tools to use in the high school classrooms and would like to create an e-book without buying a commercial product.

We have faculty members who have created e-books via their wiki pages. The students, in turn, download the e-books to their ipads for use in the classroom.  The students keep the material in their ipad library for use during the course of the semester/year.

Mara,

Do you know which production tools the teachers used on the wiki to create the e-books?  Was it done in Power Point?

Jeannie

Hi Jeannie,

I guess I was a little vague with my response... hope the following is helpful.

Working from their MacBook Pros, the teachers used Pages to begin creating the e-books for their classrooms.  Once they created their final document in Pages they exported it to an ePub file format.  (File>Export>ePub) After loading the ePub file to their wiki page the students downloaded the document into their "iBooks library."  ( I know they are using Keynote to create downloadable movies for their students as well. )

Jeannie,

I held a meeting at Collegiate last year where we discussed digital texts....

Here's a link to our notes:

I also recommend reaching out to Jim Foley: St. Luke's School and Bill Campbell at Dwight-Englewood School.

Best,  Alex

Demibook Composer

This is a brand new app and it's free.  It is supposed to be for composing ebooks.

I've downloaded it, but have not looked at it just yet!

Best wishes,

Candace

Thank you, Candace.  I've just downloaded it and plan to try it out soon.  It is taking a really long time to download.

And thank you to Mara and Alex for their replies too.
