Independent School Educators network

I am new to this group and don't know if this is the proper place for this type of question. Please let me know if this is not what this group is about.

The 4th grade reads The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth Speare and is looking for several other titles. This book is too difficult for some of the kids, and they are looking for some easier titles.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Tom

Moon of Two Dark Horses by Sally M. Keehn is a great alternative/complement to Sign of the Beaver. It is not necessarily easier but it is written from the Native perspective.
You might take a look at Children of the Longhouse, by Joseph Bruchac. It's set in a Mohawk village and includes village-wide (and brutal) lacrosse. Bruchac is an Abenaki Indian who has written many good Native American legends, as well as chapter books.
