A colleague (Larry) asked if I run Moodle on the same server as the one that runs FA Web (Blackbaud's gradebook.) I have them on separate servers. Does anyone want to offer advice or experience about running Moodle on a webserver that is also running other separately served websites? Thanks!

I would not recommend going with any shared hosting setup. Moodle needs ample resources
to run well, and you are not ensured of these resources on shared hosts.

See http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=89528 for a recent discussion,
and http://docs.moodle.org/en/Performance for an overview of factors that
affect performance -- addressing these factors should be taken into account
when choosing a host.
We run our moodle install with 1380 users on an xserve and get great performance. We do use the FirstClass plugin to authenticate our users though as we had some trouble with a buggy LDAP/AD version when we did our latest update.

Moodle quicly becomes popular and should have its own machine if you expect to grow. No one like slow web applications.

The best performance is probably from Linux installs and these are the easiest (and least expensive) to complete.
I agree with your idea of separate servers, a server with a decent amount of RAM and splurge on the disk access speed - RAID with fast drives. Also, a reliable backup scheme. Another server on the same box is going to compete for the drive access or hog the RAM and processor and slow your site down.
I think it probably depends on what you're doing with Moodle and the number of users accessing it, however, Blackbaud will instruct you to place FAWeb and NetClassroom on their own webserver.
