What frequency do you set up profile validation for?  What about Bad Email and Missing Email?

Hi Marti,

I don't have too many people uploading a video lecture - podcasts of lectures yes. (so they are only audio)  We identified an issue with some of our teachers uploading videos that caused significant delays.  If a teacher was connecting wirelessly - we reminded them to never do this with video files.  The issue appeared though both wired and wirelessly- when attempting to add a video and then select an additional class/course to post it to, the system would hang, this reminded me of your issue but we alleviated this problem in dicussion with WH to always go to add the additional publish location before selecting a video to upload.  I echo Art & Rebecca - always use bulk upload.  We try to use MP4 formatted files whenever possible.

Video length is less important than file size. And then there are two events that happen before a video is available for viewing in the Media Gallery: (1) the actual time it takes to upload the file to WhippleHill; and (2) the time it takes to get the file to Brightcove, process the video and then make it available for viewing in the Media Gallery. I do think the entire roundtrip is faster if you upload an MP4 formatted file initially. And "yes" I did not answer your question. I agree with Rebeccca, always use the bulk upload option.

About how long, on average, does it take you to  upload a file such as a 30 minute lecture to Whipple Hill (in mp4 format)?

Hi Marti, re videos, two thoughts. Make sure you are using the bulk upload option, even if just for a single file. WH is using a new system to process video so that they play faster once loaded but this adds to the uploading time. That said, I am uploading MP4 files.

Does any of you have some best practice thoughts for uploading videos to the Whipple Hill media gallery? My large files, in WMV format can sometimes take the whole day.

Hiram, you old dog! I might have suspected that you were behind this group...

My question is why all these various "portal views"...why can't an individual individualize his or her page - I mean, I can do it with fantasy football, with my yahoo mail, with my google desktop, why the heck not with Whipple Hill (the other sites are nearly free!)...

We've created a portal called "News Room" that consolidates a range of content--mostly feeds--from the web. The audience for this portal is alumni and parents who may be information junkies and/or slightly more tech savvy than most. It includes a channel with feed links for our site's RSS and calender feeds (along with instructions for using them). It includes weather and links to relevant community sites. Perhaps most interesting is a feed of clippings about our school from the broader web (that I track using Google alerts and then add to a "clippings" feed using the NewsGator news aggregator). Each time I become aware of a web story or media object that I'd like to share with our community, I add it to my NewsGator clippings, which is then pulled in to a WhippleHill RSS channel, where it displays on the News Room portal. It sounds complicated, but now that it is set up, it only requires me to check my Google alerts every few days and select clippings to publish--about a five minute process. I'm still fine tuning it and have not promoted it widely, so it's too early to evaluate reception.
