The Independent School Educators Listserv (ISED-L) is a way to send and receive email messages with over a thousand other independent school educators. The emails are typically questions about independent school curriculum, technology, and programs. The responses (also by email) are typically from educators who have experience with whatever is being asked. To sign up for the list-serv, please click here or visit this GDS help page for the list. Once you submit your email address, you'll get an automated confirmation from the list-serv computer. After you have confirmed your address, you can also create a password to manage your account. This can be useful to specify whether you want to receive each email message individually, or if you prefer what is called "digest" mode (see below.)
Because this is a high volume list, you might want to create filters in your email program to send all incoming ISED mail to a folder other than your in-box. This can be helpful to deal with the volume of mail on this list. By setting up a mail filtering rule and directing all incoming ISED mail to an
"ISED" folder that bypasses you inBox, you'll be able to read ISED email in
threaded conversations (e.g. if you use gmail's "threaded conversation" view.)
The downside of using digest mode to cut down on the volume is that there is too much vertical scrolling to read through each daily digest. If you want to set your subscription to "digest" mode in order to receive one daily email that has all of the ISED-L emails for the previous 24 hours, here are the directions. Otherwise you receive each individual message (which might seem a bit overwhelming.) The list has been averaging about 20 messages per day.
Once you get subscribed, and create a password for yourself, you can log in, then go to your settings for "ISED" to set it to "digest" mode.
