Rosetta Stone

Hi All We are considering getting a site license (25 concurrent users) for Rosetta Stone to supplement our middle school French program as well as to help us offer other international languages. I'd love to hear from others who are using it for classroom instruction. How do you use it and what are the pros and cons others should know before integrating it at their school? AndreaSee More

commercial database software for school assessment data

In the June 10th issue of Education Week, I read about the Western Heights school district in Oklahoma and their effective use of databases to track student learning. Teachers and administrators can easily find and monitor individual student's growth on multiple measures over their years at school, as well as analyze school-wide data. Can anyone recommend a commercial, user-friendly product that they have used for such a purpose? Currently I'm using Excel but it is much too basic to really have…See More

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the nice comment and the hello. I am interested in Ning and viral type technologies because of my interest in knowledge building - most of our faculty use in-house tools, "components", in Blackboard, such as Learning Object's wiki to create a safe sandbox for learning. I imagine if the privacy settings could be moderated by the teacher rather by the end user more adoption in Ning would take place.

Other than that - this and similar tools such as elgg are explored but not implemented at Greenwood. Right now, I am considering switching to Moodle and then integrating ELGG down the road.

I would be curious though if Ning is used at Kingsway. It certainly does have potential.

Best,
Jonathan

Hi Andrea. Welcome!

I have a question for you. Peter Gow and I were exchanging emails today about an online Canadian Studies course he is contemplating. We were wondering if there is a listserv or forum that is popular with CAIS teachers, especially the more tech savvy ones. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Fred
