Hi Jim! I have been meaning to send you a message to let you know that my freshman and sophomore Math classes are all using shared One Note notebooks this year thanks to your generous help last year. It is working very well and the teachers are thrilled!! Thanks again!

Hi Jim,
Are we still on for Weds at 11:30? If your IT person didn't have a better suggestion, do you want to try out Yugma and skype? We could test it quickly beforehand if you'd like to get familiar with it. I am available this evening and Tues evening. You can skype me at bethadamczyk or just send me a message or email badamczyk@buffaloseminary.org

thanks!

Great!!! Thanks so much!! Let me know if your IT person has a better suggestion. Although I haven't used Yugma in a while, I used it last year with a student who was home with mono. Yugma allowed us to share the teachers desktop (smartboard) and skype was on so that we could hear each other. I'll be in touch shortly.

Hi Jim,

Friday is a bit too rushed. We were wondering if perhaps Weds the 11th would work for you. If not, we will have to come up with another plan. BTW do you have a preference for communicating? I have used Yugma before to share screens. Is there something better?

Hi Jim,

I had a meeting with several of the Math teachers and they came up with some good questions.
We are all still having a difficult time understanding how the shared notebooks work. Do you have a separate shared notebook for each student? Can the students see each other’s notebooks? Do you grade work directly in the Notebooks? If so, can’t the kids change what you do? Do the kids delete or mess up things in the notebooks. What if they delete the links?
We have had a really rough time with the student organizational skills. One of the advantages of a laptop program is supposed to be the fact that the kids always have their papers with them. We have had many instances of lost notes and deleted files!
Do you use a regular text book? Do you give them paper worksheets? What about quizzes and tests?
My teachers would love to have a chance to chat with you. Do you have any availability during the day between 11:30 – 12:30?

Good morning Jim,

Good to hear from you. I can't say that journal is the display of choice for our faculty across the board. It does get a lot of use among our Lower School teachers, but many in middle and upper school are displaying and marking up office docs and presentations and many use the organizational tools of OneNote to share their content with students. Since we are not a 1:1 school, we haven't explored OneNote sharing to any extent. We've been researching the $ involved in expanding to a 1:1, but it doesn't look promising in the current climate.

Regards,

Frank

Hi Jim,

Thanks SO much for your comments on the Algebra with tablets discussion. I passed them along to my Math teachers. I think the teachers are ready to "stretch" a bit and would be willing to try something new. We have been talking about what to do for next year, so the timing is great. Our students all have Smart software installed on their tablets, so they are able to record their screens and voices. Currently the kids don;t actually DO math problems in the notebooks. They do them on worksheets that were printed into Windows Journal and then sent to the kids in One Note notebooks. Would you be willing to have a web meeting with my Math teachers some time so that we could show you what we do, and you could show us what you do. Perhaps we will be able to find a solution that will work for us.

Beth
