My Bio

My name is Nellie (Muller) Deutsch. I have been teaching English as a foreign language for over 30 years. I have been integrating technology into the ESL/EFL classroom since the 1990s. I have been involved in international collaborative projects and WebQuests via Moodle for the past 5 years. My first website, Nellie's English Projects was an experiment that evolved from a WebQuest and started me off as a webmistress in the days of html before web 2.0 tools. I facilitate online and face-to-face workshops on how to use Wikieducator as a collaborative tool for instruction and learning and conduct online workshops and conferences. I also moderate live online workshops for Electronic Village Online which is a project of TESOL's CALL Interest Section, storytelling and cultures, and integration of technology and web 2.0 tools into the classroom on WiZiQ.

I am passionate about learning and am currently completing my doctoral studies in educational leadership specializing in curriculum, and instruction online at the University of Phoenix and writing my dissertation. I am researching blended learning and instructor use of technology in higher education. In my spare time, I mentor educators on how to integrate web 2.0 tools for instruction and learning. I would like to see e-learning available and free worldwide.

I am looking forward to collaborating with other educators on the best ways to integrate technological tools in order to facilitate and improve instruction and learning.

Please feel free to contact me by email

Needed: Educational leader involved in student assessment

Perhaps you can help. I need to interview an educational leader involved in student assessment for a research paper I am writing this week. Do you know of anyone who may be able to help?

This is what I need:

Please, provide background information on your experiences in assessing students. For example, role as an educational leader involved in student assessment at an institutional setting, number of years, area of assessment, and other information relevant to your work in assessing students.… Continue

Cool! How do you like RobotC? For the reasons I mentioned above, I haven't found text-based programming environments to work with middle schoolers, but I wish that we could "drop down" from the graphical environment in NXT-G to text a la Gamemake...

48 Hours To Go! So exactly what is involved in participating you ask? It is as easy as 1, 2, 3. See the 10balloons wiki for details.

I have a small class of 10th-11th grade students programming NXTs with RobotC, soon to add Tetrix motors and pieces, and the most rewarding part of the experience so far has been watching them post their projects on the RobotC.net project forum. T...

We're thinking of using the Cambridge A level exams in place of the AP's and wondered if anyone else has had any experience with the Cambridge program. I did, a hundred years ago, in school in india, but it has changed completely since then. You c...

Greetings! There are some differences in the U.S. and Standards Editions. First off, the Standards materials are K-5, Primary Mathematics are K-6. (Although I understand the Standards Edition may eventually continue through 8th grade) The only ki...

Carol Ann Pala Wondering if any schools out there are maintaining/creating an archive website?

Greetings! After teaching in an elementary charter school, I now coach and train teachers on the Singapore Math curriculum. Most of my schools I work with are either charter or independent schools with the autonomy to find what works in curriculu...

Dear Cassandra, I am about to order a complete set of the Primary Math series for us to look at. Do you have a sense for the differences between the US and Standards editions. I know from the Singapore.com website that the Standards edition was w...

Fred Bartels Wondering how to get many schools involved in the Darpa 10 balloon challenge in just three days?
yesterday
I set up a wiki titled 10ballons last night where those schools that want to participate can add themselves and the contact person. This is only going to work if we get a lot of schools participating so we should 'fully exercise' all the web 2.0 s...

Sounds like fun. If each member school on this network made an announcement at his/her school assembly, how many students would we have out there looking to spot the balloons? With roughly 3000 members on this network, I'd guess we have at least 1...

About the $40,000. In the case that an ISBFT should develop, and should that team win the contest, my thought is the money could be donated to Kiva. Just imagine the headlines in the New York Times. Independent School Students Win DARPA Challeng...

Hi! It's interesting to see how close many of us came in many ways to what is currently happening. Reading Laurie's makes me wistful as we seem to have become less student-focused in this country, at least in public schools which subject to NCLB,...
