"These are good questions.  I myself am particularly interested in #2&4, though the word redirect might be less loaded than "divert".  I do think #3 is more of a statement than a question and argumentative to boot.…"

"Hi Molly, I'm not a fan of the x230's that we have now (like the 220's).  I hesitate to buy them up just as they go EOL.  The Twist doesn't take pen input so that is a deal breaker for us. Sarah"

Schedule sharing

I responded to the below post on the listserv, but my attachment was rejected. So, at the bottom of this blog post you can find a .pdf file that shows a week of our schedule.

We have an Upper School schedule here for which I can claim no credit, but that I have already touted to others as outstanding. We are JK-12,

one cafeteria. Two gyms, but only sort of.

There's a 10 day

rotation (really a 5 day for cross divisional planning purposes). US

students take 6… Continue

Nature Deficit Disorder

We have a new tool in my class--a wall.fm site for students and faculty to discuss current topics. I asked the students to "Write a blog post about a place in nature that is meaningful

to you. Post a picture if you have one." This was to be the lead-in to reading excerpts from Emerson and Thoreau.

That seemed straightforward enough to me. What I've seen so far really depresses me, and I don't think its that the kids didn't understand the assignment.…

Language Labs when a school is already 1:1

I came from a 1:1 environment and my new school is 1:1 as well. What a

fun adventure it's been to learn how things work here! It's sort of

like people say about the UK and the US--two countries divided by a

common language. So many things I "knew" are different here--Final Site to Whipple Hill, Blackbaud to Senior Systems. . .

One thing that has come up is a strong desire for a language lab by the World Languages department chair. I was caught off-guard by… Continue

More live blogging

I don't really just go to conferences! This is an exploratory visit. I am checking out this new conference. It's in Raleigh, so practically local. Sleeping at home.

All of these will be on http://gdsmstech.blogspot.com/ I'll set up the blog posts tonight and Thursday night. Friday's sessions look really good.

Here's the list of sessions I'll be attending, see what appeals to you and remember, you can either participate live or just look at the conversation… Continue

"Reality Education"

I've been reading the book Influencers. One of the authors' assertions in the book is that the best way to establish or change a behavior is through direct experience. How do we provide direct experiences for learners? I would argue that one way to start is by providing direct learning experiences for teachers rather than "workshops."

One of our teachers at Greensboro Day is involved in a fascinating opportunity. Tim Martin, our 8th grade earth science teacher will participate… Continue
