I used it pretty actively for about two years and ultimately found it more annoying than useful. Keeping a decent signal to noise ratio took too much care and time. I'm glad others find it wonderful, but it didn't really work for me.

Because I work with middle schoolers, this combination of technology and romance rings all too true, Liz! A good presentation. I personally found that after the initial "honeymoon" period, I had to cut back on my tweeps and also try to broaden my r…

I think I messed up! It should be #edchat. I hope you were still able to find some of the comments. If you want to join, just search for #edchat on Tuesdays between 7 and 8. Then comment, making sure to place the #edchat at the end of your comment.

I have a twitter account but wasn't too sure how to follow along with #educhat. I did a search for it last night and saw the conversation, but didn't know what to do to participate next time.

Just go to Twitter.com and set up an account. Then you might want to check out Liz Davis' video about twitter: http://lizbdavis.blip.tv/file/614017/ Give it a few months!

NECC Reflections

I posted a reflection here on my blog. Great to meet so many ISENET-ers there, and to attend my first SIG, too. I am still trying to unpack all the ideas that floated in and out of my brain.
Putting all of that into practice is the next step. Lots to think about as I use social media even more to connect with my students and their families.

Learning from higher ed

My RSS feed includes several bloggers from higher ed, both professors and technology specialists. English professor Gardner Campbell, recently at nearby UMW but moving to Baylor, speaks eloquently about "the digital imagination" as well as how networks enable collective, creative leaning (and much more). New read Britt Watwood, an online learning specialist at V… Continue

Who owns the learning?

I was reading PJ Higgins' blog this morning, and he is pondering essential questions for a class.
He says, "What I am struggling with, and I think it’s a struggle that all teachers and administrators will face in the coming years, is convincing and working with teachers to learn alongside their students, to model their practice for them, to fail in front of them, and to resurrect themselves in front of them."

Powerful Learning Practice

Just a reminder that we are participating with Will Richardson and Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach in a year-long professional development opportunity next fall. We are beginning to form the core group of 20 schools, so if you are interested, don't hesitate to email if you have questions. Here is part of my previous post. You can look for the rest below!
We, at Fredericksburg Academy, have the opportunity to participate in a national program with key people engaged in this process. The Powerful Learning P… Continue

Join a Professional Learning Practice with Will Richardson and Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach

As you know, current literature indicates the classroom is changing. More and more, we are asking teachers to create environments for children to be collaborative, creative, and connected. The recent Independent
School magazine devotes space to
"Reading
and Writing in the 21st Century."

We, at Fredericksburg Academy, have the opportunity to participate in a national program with key people engaged in this process. The Powerful Learning Practice will be guided by Shery

All is well. Kids are growing like weeds. Skylar now 6 is finishing up Kindergarten, Jackson is in PK4 and Tristan is now fully engulfed in the terrible two's. SO LIFE is GOOD. Can't wait to see you in the summer.

Keep in touch.

Hey Susan--great Diigo on the Speak Out post. I'm going back to that one tomorrow (I've taken a benedryl and am a little foggy right now). It looks really good, and I've been thinking it was time to focus my attention on the national level--something we in Independent schools don't always do.

Hey Susan - I saw your twitter yesterday about GoogleApps and I wanted to pick your brain. We (I) am thinking about signing my teachers up (and maybe even students) for GoogleApps but not using the email. Is that what you have done? any word of wisdom? suggestions? You can email me at plennig [at}gmail[dot]com

Well, hello Susan Morgan! Thanks for saying hi. I too noticed that I was not the only Susan Morgan on the ning as I signed up. This looks like it will provide for a lot of relevant discussions. I look forward to reading your posts.

Hi Susan,
I bet his name was Greg Schneider, who is now the Headmaster at Berwick Academy in Maine.
Ooops, this is short as we're off for a walk before it gets too dark. Here's to a delicious Thanksgiving with, perhaps, some time for relaxing :-)
Cheers, Laurie
