Report review in the Lower School

In the past the Principal of the Lower School would review all 200 report cards. This year we are holding a faculty meeting (with very wonderful food) devoted strictly to reviewing reports. The classroom teachers (two per grade level) will review each others. The special area teachers also had a faculty meeting devoted to review and they broke down each special - Ex. art K, art 1, art 2, art 3...and then for the 1.5 hours of the faculty meeting, the teachers would sign up to review different…See More

Community building activity - ideas?

Hi,Last year in our Lower School we gave every class a large poster board (36" x 72") and we had a snowman contest. Every class could create a snowman to represent their class. It was a wonderful activity. The creativity was amazing; we had surfing snowmen, patriotic snowmen, librarian snowmen... It was such fun to display all these snowman down the main hall of our school. They brought a smile to the faces of all who entered, and a sense of pride to the students as they worked together to…See More

Strong math students....where do you go from here?

Having taught first and third grade for fourteen years before becoming an administrator, I've had many conversations with parents who think their child is "gifted" in math. And yes, in some cases they truly are strong in one area of math, but not always all areas. How do you handle discussions with parents, assuring them you're aware of their child's strength, but not wanting to change curriculum?

"Hello Brad.  We are a Lower School, Pre-K to Gr. 4 and we have purchased 20 iPads to begin our exploration to see how this technology can enhance our teaching. Is this course designed for Lower School personnel? Thanks so much."

Our Theme Garden

Children explore the world with all of their senses. They are born naturalists. Evidence of this is seen in our Lower School garden this spring, as students are busy planting, weeding, harvesting, experimenting and learning.         Last year being novices in our garden, we asked Teich Gardens what plants would grow in what season and we let them guide us in our planting. This year, however, being “seasoned gardeners” and more invested, we asked each grade what they would like to plant…See More

#digital wave

Have you heard of the #Digital wave? What a great learning opportunity!! At RCDS we are fortunate to have students and faculty eager to share, guide and hold your hand as you embark on new learning in the field of technology.

Today was a wonderful experience!! Going on to First Class and IM'ing on a "group chat", comprised of students and teachers, to learn more about technology was amazing. I fine tuned my Twitter profile, but I still need to go to the "isenet" list… Continue

Sylvia, the 21st century skills group has so much to offer. I am fascinated with the literacy wiki. My biggest problem is how and when (time) to wade through so much fascinating material!
This digital wave will be fast and furious...and fact-filled fun!
So glad we can share our 'surfing.'
