AIM Tech Retreat - Lightbulb Moments
Okay so I am sitting in a keynote session with Helene Blowers (librarybytes.com) at the AIMS Technology Retreat in beautiful St. Michaels, MD. My lightbulb moment for today is learning how to be a Guide to Learning rather than a Teacher of Learning. I have to discover how to get my faculty embraced in Learning 2.0 - innovative web 2.0 skills they can implement in their classrooms. I have seen the traditional classroom training method go unsuccessful so I am going to SHIFT my focus to being a guide to learning rather than just a "talking head." This journey for me should be quite interesting as this shift in the learning process has happened so rapidly that it makes for such an adjustment for those who have been teacher for many years (more that 15). :-)

As a math teacher (pre-TechDir life), I always try to setup my class as if I were coaching a team (volleyball) or teaching dance (salsa). In each of these situations, I have to be more of a "GUIDE" where the "team members" learn from each other. How you setup the chairs/desks in a classroom is an essential part of creating that "GUIDE-like" environment as well. I like my "classes" around a big circular table myself
