connect - discuss - collaborate

Just came across this post by educator Paul Hamilton from British Columbia. It includes a video interview with a class of 6th grade bloggers. He says, "In my six years of teaching grade 6, before the era of blogs, I never saw such high quality writing by so many motivated writers."

Motivation is so important, and lacking in so many classrooms. I've only just begun to read Disrupting Class, but like how the book is premised on motivation as the underlying x factor.

Paul's blog post also links to Kim Cofino and Silvia Tolisano's blogging tips. Great stuff!

Glad you found those posts about blogging with students helpful. I would also recommend Dr. Scott McLeod's K12Online presentation about Disrupting Class and Disruptive Innovations (by the same author). A great overview for both books expertly presented.

I have used Paul's video of the 6th grade bloggers with HUGE success with our 5th graders just this past week during an introduction unit on blogging. It allowed them to "hear" someone their age talk about the kind of "academic" blogging we are trying to foster.
