connect - discuss - collaborate

Recently I benefited from Alex sharing his student survey questions in this community. To reciprocate, I want to share the survey questions that I developed off of his to assess our tablet program. The link to see the survey at surveymonkey.com is: http://tinyurl.com/5tqwnx. One question I forgot to include on the survey was to ask whether they back up their files and how often. Next time I do this, I'll add that one. What other questions would you add to this survey?

One of the nice features of surveymonkey is that you can send your survey questions to other administrators with surveymonkey accounts and they can then add to or modify them for their own schools. I would be willing to do this if you direct-message me.

The results from my students were interesting. They basically validate what we are doing, expressing positive satisfaction and usage patterns, but there are common concerns about damage, startup & logon time, and distraction.

I'm preparing a similar survey for faculty and if you've done this would appreciate your thoughts on good questions to ask.

Here are some of the results from the students:

I was somewhat encouraged by this:

In this next question, I was trying to get at the difference between a laptop and a tablet:

Note-taking was one of our requirements as we began this initiative:

Activities other than note-taking are harder to gauge:

We obviously have work to do in this regard:

Activities that involve creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving are where we want to go:

Thanks so much for sharing this, Demitri, it's a great service to your colleagues. As I librarian, I suspect that my students' answers to the question about library database use would be quite similar. Some of this can be attributed to the ease-of-use factors of Google vs. library databases (well, Google vs. anything really), and some to the need for constant faculty/staff/student education around what is available and how it adds value.

Demetri - this is wonderful. You have inspired me to do something very similar - it will be fun to compare results and also to use as a baseline as we try to encourage more problem and project based learning.

Hi Sister Elizabeth,
Thanks for your question. Below are the survey results regarding the Tech Help Desk. Based in the upper school where we have our 1-1 program, our tech support department includes myself, our front desk support person (who is awesome), our network admin, two tech support guys who know their stuff, and our tech integration coach. Hope this helps.
cheers,
Demetri
