Hello Everyone-
Next year there is a very good chance that we'll have be making our school campus WiFi-friendly to personally owned computing devices. This is not a 1:1 program, but instead we're looking at capturing the computing power that already rests in the hands of many of our students in the form of personally owned laptops.
A few assumptions:
1. We expect students will use these tools for good. We also recognize that students make mistakes. Consequences and learning opportunities will be put in place when this happens. A no minimizing policy will be put in place as well (eg-students will not be permitted to quickly minimize their windows when an adult approaches)
2. The same level of filtering that we use on our school owned student computers will be applied to student owned computers. We're actually quite liberal with our filtering because we don't want to block tools that have have solid educational value.
3. In the first year we anticipate that some students will bring their laptops to school and will use them during discretionary time periods such as before/after school, recess and study halls. Teachers who are comfortable with students using their personally owned devices for class projects will have the authority to make this decision.
4. Each time a user signs into the public WiFi system, they will agree to a terms of use statement.
5. This terms of use statement will also go in the student handbook under the Acceptable Use Policy section.
Does anyone have a terms of use/AUP agreement for the use of personally owned student computers on campus? If so, would you be willing to share with us? I surfed the school computing wiki, but I didn't really see AUPs that met our needs. I think even an AUP for a 1:1 program with school owned devices would be useful if you're willing to share.

WiFi system and history on getting to this point, visit our online planning page.
Thank much for considering!
