Independent School Educators network

using social-networking technology for exploration, discussion, & collaboration

I am giving a workshop on Personal Learning Networks for the administrators (business, development/advancement, admissions, library etc) at our school. I will be covering blogs, RSS, this Ning, etc. I am looking for blogs that might interest those departments. Do you have any recommendations for blog reading?

Hey Page,
The SC wiki page has links to a variety of blogs on it: http://schoolcomputing.wikia.com/wiki/Blogs (including a list of admins' blogs). Please add more links to it if you get good suggestions for the departments you mentioned.

Some of the blog-stars (Warlick, Richardson, Jukes, etc) may be of interest to anyone interested in how tech is changing education.
hope that helps,
Demetri

Hey Page-

Here are a few that might work:

Leadertalk: http://www.leadertalk.org/

Anne Reed is a parent at my school who is an attorney and a very active professional blogger and facebook user: http://jurylaw.typepad.com/deliberations/ I share this because it is solid evidence that these tools are being used by folks at many different levels and in many different industries (eg-it isn't just the crazy instructional tech folks using this stuff!)

You could show them this new, "Parents as Partners," group on Facebook that we started: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13136746541 Not much there right now, but hopefully we'll get a little critical mass going so we can discuss creative and innovative ways to promote parental involvement in the 21st century. It also has the added benefit of getting parents into facebook for a productive purpose (eg-the share and learn from other parents). I know admins are interested in issues of parental involvement, and this shows them how social media tools can be used to support parent learning. Please join this group if you get the chance Page!

I wrote a really long (too long) blog post on Web2.0 and administrators a few weeks ago...it has some additional resource links that you might find useful for your talk. Link to my blog post is:

Good luck, Page! I look forward to hearing how it goes (this is something I foresee doing here in the future as well).

Cheers!
Matt

Thanks Matt and Demetri - I wrote that post before I went to the SC Wiki - of course - a great resource. Matt - thanks for those links. And I will let you know how it goes and post my materials.
