Moodle and gmail

We have recently switched our email to google apps. I am now trying to configure our moodle server to work with the new email accounts and am not having success.

I am running a SUSE box with a 1.8 installation of moodle.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you trying to have Moodle authenticate against Google Apps?

If so there is a module for Moodle that supposedly does this. I have not tried it myself but here is the link:

No, I just want to use a google account to be the email account for the MOODLe emails.

What problems are you experiencing?

Our students use Google Apps for their email accounts and Moodle does not seem to mind.

What are you using as the SMTP server for moodle? Are you using smtp.gmail.com? When I set up my moodle server to use it, emails were not going through. I saw a forum that suggested it was because google doesn't use port 25, but I never figured out it that indeed was the issue or if there is a work around.

I believe I could use sendmail on the linux server, but do not know how to go about configuring it.

We still use Exchange for our Faculty and Staff and we also use it as the SMTP server for Moodle.

You could probably check with your ISP to see if they have an SMTP server you could use.
